I use a fons and porter utility needle for hand quilting with perle cotton.

I like to stitch with size 8 perle cotton and the fons and porter needles are easy to thread when using size 8 or size 12. I buy some of my perle cotton online usually on etsy but if you google you will find other options. If it was a quilt that was going to be washed a lot i would either do lots of hand quilting on it to make it strong or i would add some machine quilting as well. These needles were specifically designed for big stitch quilting.

This was an excellent tutorial on hand quilting giving me the desire to try hand quilting once again. I quite like combining machine and hand quilting. I just have to finish some machine quilting on the quilt it is a large throw so i thought for my first time hand quilting that maybe i shouldn t try to hand quilt the whole thing and then i can get started. I m just reviewing this again.

I instantly felt i had found the quilting thread i had been looking for all my life. On wonky donkey i stitched in the ditch and then hand quilted circles on it.
